Is Labiaplasty right for me?
Hypertrophy (increase in size) of the labia minorae has been associated with congenital and acquired conditions such as hormone imbalance, excessive manipulation, chronic irritation and urinary incontinence amongst others. It is important to note that labial hypertrophy is not an abnormality, there is a tremendous variance in the normal size of the labiae.
The reasons most women request labiaplasty are the aesthetic appearance, difficulty wearing certain clothing, pain with sexual intercourse, poor hygiene or chronic infection.
Labiaplasty or labial reduction has become more popular in recent years due to the fact that more and more women shave the pubic area – the size and appearance of a woman’s labiae are therefore more commonly noticed from both functional and aesthetic standpoints.
